Stockings With Care works with the following agencies who are dedicated to meeting the needs of families in our area shelters and assistance programs. Our kids are like any other kid. They are infants, toddlers, tweens and teens. And they want what every other kid wants: toys, dolls, stuffed animals, clothes, games, music, etc. But these kids don't enjoy the comfort and security of a stable home. Luckily, these kids and their families have the care, concern, and support of the following organizations:
FAMILY PRESERVATION PROGRAM

LONG LIFE
Long Life offers experiences and opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities and other identified conditions associated with poor developmental outcomes intended to alter behavioral and developmental trajectories. We nurture the strength in an individual and their family using a person centered model to create abilities, promote self-advocacy, and improve the quality of life for people who live with a disability that are also challenged by poverty.
Through our generous and sensitive staff since we provide service coordination, housing, in and out of the home habilitation services, and vocational rehabilitation. 2009 is a very special year for us. We look forward to opening an art gallery that focuses on the creative abilities of people with disabilities. We always find providing safe, decent, affordable housing a big challenge and will open our first new construction, 40-unit apartment building for people with disabilities in 2009. In 2009, we will provide financial literacy and asset creation services geared to people with intellectual disabilities. We can’t wait for 2009, it is our 20th year and holds promise at every turn.
Over the years, our partnership with Stockings With Care has allowed us to brighten the holidays spirit for thousands of families marginalized by poverty. The Stockings With Care philanthropic style of the “Secret Santa” removes the stigma of poverty and neediness. A child or teen can enjoy their gift PERIOD, with nothing added or subtracted. There is no assault to the youngsters pride, just pure joy—a very beautiful thing. It empowers the head(s) of households, most of whom are single women by letting parents give their children something simply for the joy of it that is not a necessity of life at a time when necessities are hard to come by.
MORRIS HEIGHTS
SCAN
Using both traditional and innovative programmatic themes, SCAN programming emphasizes a positive, empowerment focused approach, building upon individual and familial strengths. Stabilization of the family unit, often the primary goal of most child welfare agencies, often serves as a beginning point n SCAN's service delivery matrix.
SCAN programs and services are delivered from three core program sites:
- Two in the South Bronx (Mullaly Academy and the SCAN Family Rehabilitation Center) and one in East Harlem (SCAN/La Guardia Memorial House).
- Two child care sites at New York City Housing Authority locations (The SCAN/LaGuardia Nursery at East River Houses and the Eisman Nursery at Holmes Towers/Isaacs Houses)
- A number of school-based partnerships, including after-school programs, tutoring services, and drop-out prevention initiatives, serving the Bronx and East Harlem, each staffed by onsite SCAN personnel.
